We are OSHA-trained and LEED-accredited professionals. We are certified welders, crane operators, concrete technicians, and contractors.

Though we've been led by some prominent families, we've never been a family-led company. Instead, we choose to be led by those who merit excellence and promotion. Because of this, we firmly believe that our team can handle any challenge with grace and precision.

Randy Knecht

Randy Knecht

President/CEO

Randy has been involved in the construction industry for more than 25 years, joining the firm in 1994.  Serving as President  & CEO, Randy leads an outstanding group of dedicated and talented construction professionals.  Duties also include developing and maintaining client relationships and overseeing overall corporate risk strategy.

As a member of the Board of Directors, Randy works closely with the board to provide strategic direction and vision for the Company – a roadmap for the future.

Prior to being appointed President and CEO, Randy served as CFO from 1994 – 2010.

Community support includes serving on the boards of Avera McKennan Trustees, Junior Achievement, Northern State University Foundation, Volunteers of America-Dakotas Foundation, Sioux Empire United Way, and Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.  Randy also serves on the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Community Appeals and Business Leadership Council committees.

Marlyn Bergeson

VP Operations

As the Vice President of Operations, Marlyn utilizes his twenty-eight years of experience with the Journey Group to focus on building successful teams. He applies his guidance and leadership skills to support each of the operating units while managing valuable resources and communicating the companies core values. His drive to instill the attitude of "success through performance" in our field leadership is only overshadowed by a commitment to our employees, to send each and every employee home safely at the end of every day.

Marlyn is involved in a number of different organizations within the Sioux Falls community. These organizations are the AGC of SD, Catholic Dioceses of Eastern SD, Sioux Empire United Way Campaign, Junior Achievement, SE Tech Foundation Board, SD Safety Council. Through these different organizations, Marlyn brings a positive impact on building our community. 

Darin Hage

Darin has been with the Journey team for 25 years. Darin's field experience, engineering background, and experience in project management, estimating, and scheduling on several unique and challenging projects has allowed him to bring these skills to his current role as the division manager for Journey Construction. Darin instills a "can-do" attitude and a team-based approach when working with owners, design team members, and Journey's management team to ensure that all project expectations are met or exceeded. His ability to create an atmosphere where all parties feel part of a team with a common goal has led to highly successful projects.

Jared Gusso

Jared joined the Journey Group team fifteen years ago. Extensive engineering training coupled with hands on construction experience has given Jared the skills to successfully analyze, solve and communicate challenging logistical and constructability issues that arise on projects. Jared has successfully completed an eclectic array of projects but is consistently drawn to the time sensitive, technical and challenging projects that require a detail-oriented Project Manager.

Division Leader, Blacktop Paving

Ryan is the division leader for our Black-Top Paving Division. He has worked in many areas of construction,  making him a versatile member of our team. He applies his extensive construction knowledge and performance-oriented management style to all his projects. Ryan and the asphalt division he leads focus on doing quality work in a timely manner from the bidding process to project completion.

Community Involvement is also very important to Ryan. He is involved in a number of different organizations throughout the community. These organizations range from AGC of South Dakota, Sioux Falls contractors Association, United way, St. Katherine Drexel, and finally being a strong volunteer for Junior Achievement. 

Arin Gonseth,CPA, CCIFP

Arin Gonseth,CPA, CCIFP

Chief Financial Officer

Joining Journey Group in September 2015, Arin brings a unique perspective with five years of experience in public accounting specializing primarily with closely-held construction companies. Experience includes providing assurance and consulting services to a wide variety of companies including vertical construction, heavy highway, paving, dirt work, and underground utilities as well as a variety of construction suppliers, aggregate producers, and equipment dealerships. In addition, Arin has considerable experience working with community-based non-profit organizations and foundations.

As a member of Construction Financial Management Association, Arin serves on the Board of Directors, Membership Committee, and Heartland Regional Conference Planning Committee. Arin is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and South Dakota CPA Society.

As Chief Financial Officer, Arin provides leadership and insight related to the Company’s financial position, strategic vision, and risk management.

Jay Rasmussen

Jay has been an asset to the Journey Group and the construction industry for over 30 years. Providing project management flair to business development, he understands what it takes to coordinate, communicate, and manage best value projects from preconstruction through project closeout. He listens to your needs and will help cultivate your visions into reality. When you need a construction professional to guide you through the process or help steer you in the right direction, trust Jay to remove the burden off your shoulders so you can get back to making your business prosper.

Jay's community involvement is evident. He is the current chair of the Sioux Falls Development Foundations, apart of the Sioux Falls Chamber, Vice Chairman of the FSF Joint Venture Management Committee, Board member of the SF Military Task Force, National Wild Turkey Federation, SDSU Masters of Engineering Advisory Board, SDSU Business and Economics Advisory Board. He also is a regular volunteer with Feeding South Dakota, The Banquet, Boys Scouts, and with the Lifescapes - Kids Fishing event.

Tony has been involved in the construction industry for over 25 years. Self-motivated and charismatic, Tony constantly strives to better himself, people around him, and construction projects he is involved with. Tony knows construction and the Construction Management process. Construction is a fluid and ever-changing process filled with eclectic issues and personnel. Using exceptional communication skills and keen senses of adaptability, Tony channels projects, and team members into their most efficient flow.

Aaron is a project manager specializing in healthcare construction. With the intricate challenges and continual changes in the healthcare industry, his keen attentiveness to detail is one of his strongest attributes. Aaron’s ability to complete projects in the most efficient and cost-effective way benefits not only the owner, but all members of the construction and design team. His exceptional communication skills and perceptiveness earns him respect as team leader in the ever-changing healthcare industry. 

Aaron is also participating every year in the Junior Achievement program. Through this, he is having an impact and showing the students what a career in the construction can look like.

Joe has experience in constructing a wide range of complex construction projects on time and on budget. He applies a collaborative attitude, skills and experience to create an integral project team. Highly skilled at project organization, leadership and creating positive working relationships Joe works with team members, clients, architects, and subcontractors to ensure that project expectations are met or exceeded. Joe is a team player who has a proven track record of delivering successful projects to satisfied clients.

Joe has been involved in many organizations throughout the city. This past year, Joe went through Leadership Sioux Falls which is run through the Chamber of Commerce, and he also participated and volunteered through Sioux Falls United Way.

Mark has been involved in the construction industry for over 9 years. During this time he has been exposed to a wide array of construction projects including high-profile medical projects ranging from $10,000 to over $64 million. Mark is a dedicated team player that is willing to do what it takes to make projects successful. Mark’s greatest assets are his work ethic and eagerness to learn from every opportunity presented.

Kyle Brockmueller has been with Journey Group since 2015, working the past 6 years with our SFC Civil Constructors Division. Previous to working at Journey Group, Kyle was a Project Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation. Kyle’s biggest success so far in his career was leading the reconstruction of the Brookings I-29 Interchange project. Kyle strives for every project to be on schedule, while achieving the highest level of quality. During his free time, Kyle enjoys hunting and fishing with his two labs Bailey and Bo.

Jesse Davey

Jesse has been involved in the construction industry for over 8 years. Goal driven and eager to gain knowledge Jesse focuses energies toward getting a job done right the first time. With a military background of leadership, determination, and teamwork, Jesse strives for owner satisfaction throughout the entire construction process.

Jesse is very involved within the community in a number of different programs. These programs range from Junior Achievement, The Backpack Program, The Banquet, and The Avera Cancer Walk. 

Josh Dede

Josh has served the construction industry for over fifteen years managing projects throughout the Midwest.  With diverse project experience from healthcare to roads to underground utilities Josh prides himself on adapting to changing environments and fulfilling client expectations.  Josh addresses construction issues head on, minimizes project punch-lists, and eliminates the need for call back warranty work.   Josh’s passion and focus is client satisfaction and quality control.    

Craig Holmen

Project Manager

As a 9-year member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, Craig is one of only about 300 nationally Certified Healthcare Constructors (CHC) in the country. To earn this certification by the American Hospital Association, an individual must satisfy eligibility requirements that incorporate a blend of professional experience and education, adhere to the AHA Professional Standards of Conduct, and pass the CHC Certification examination which includes competency in Industry Fundamentals of Planning, Design and Construction processes, Healthcare Safety, and Financial Stewardship. Craig has managed Healthcare projects ranging from small office remodels to an $18 million dollar ground up Critical Access Hospital. Other projects include libraries, office buildings, banks, retail stores, and museums, ranging from very small to over $20 million dollars.

Many of Craig’s projects have been in a Design-Build and Construction Management format.  Having worked directly with several architectural firms has given Craig a unique appreciation for design and the collaborative approach to delivering building projects.

Craig is heavily involved within the city in different aspects. One of the most notable ways he is involved is through the Shriners organization, participating in their band.

An expert at estimating and scheduling, Sorin’s “can-do-it” attitude and astuteness to detail guarantees successful project completion. The diversity of Sorin’s people and construction knowledge places him on a pedestal above all others to lead any project team. Sorin makes thoughts in process a reality.

Seth Lukonen

Seth is a project manager and has been with Journey Group for 5 years. Through his strong work ethic and his passion for providing the highest quality of work, Seth always delivers the highest level of customer service and efficiency throughout every project.

Seth’s experience started out a young age working in a lumber yard, moving on to a laborer in the field and most recently a project manager completing the SDSU Wellness Addition. Seth has the experience and attention to detail to carry out a successful project from start to finish. Away from work, you can find Seth either hunting, fishing, or hiking with his spouse.  

Tim Lalim

Tim has experience with a wide range of projects.  He began his career working blue-collar jobs, which gives him a unique ability to understand worker’s needs. His passion to build complex and challenging projects, as he meets and exceeds customers’ expectations, is what drives him. Through all of this, Tim brings an upbeat and positive attitude to his projects. During his free time, Tim enjoys spending time with his family and watching sports.  

Throughout the community, Tim's involved in a variety of different organizations. Two of the most prominent organizations he helps out in is, volunteering with Junior Achievement, and the Special Olympics (Polar Plunge). 

Andrea Miller

Andrea has over 12 years of project management experience in construction, information technology, and military operations.  Starting as a customer herself, she has a true respect for thoroughly understanding customer needs and the drive to deliver on them.  She has managed a variety of construction projects around the country and draws on this experience while setting projects up for sustainable success.  Andrea is a strong leader that focuses on the preconstruction phases to deliver projects on time and within budget, all while meeting the customer and design partner needs.

Brad Meyer

Brad has been an asset to Journey Group and the Asphalt Paving Industry for over five years.  He has done it all. From a laberer at the end of a shovel to project management, Brad is SDDOT certified for both asphalt and aggregate testing.  He provides clients with timely and accurate estimates as well as quality projects.  Brad's focus is client satifaction with every project delivered.

Brad is very involved in the community. A few of the organizations he volunteers his time with is Citizen's Advisory Committee, the Sioux Falls Contractors Ass., AGC of South Dakota, and the Sioux Falls Young Professionals Network.

Spending over eighteen years in the architectural field and three years as an owner's representative, Jamison understands the construction process and knows how to ask the right questions.  Jamison thrives on challenges and uses his knowledge to establish, sustain and accomplish clear project objectives. With over eleven years of experience using Revit and Building Information Modeling(BIM) software, Jamison provides project teams a unique perspective on the entire construction process while delivering highly successful projects.

These skills allow John to build successful long-term relationships with clients, co-workers and other project team members. John is a decisive team leader with extensive experience in estimating, developing project schedules, project management efficiency, and quality control.

Devin has managed a variety of projects throughout the United States. A passion of the construction industry, a tireless focus on client satisfaction, and Devin’s uncanny ability to understand client needs allows for successful projects and longstanding client relationships. He believes that the foundation of successful projects is teamwork and relationships are earned before, during, and after a construction project. With his military background, Devin leads by example and ensures that expectations are met or exceeded.

Devin has always been involved in many programs throughout the community. Some of these programs include The Backpack Program, The Banquet, Avera Cancer Walk, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance, SDSU Veterans Office, and Wounded Warriors. Through these programs, Devin has impacted the community around him.
