Though we've been led by some prominent families, we've never been a family-led company. Instead, we choose to be led by those who merit excellence and promotion. Because of this, we firmly believe that our team can handle any challenge with grace and precision.

Randy Knecht

Randy Knecht

President/CEO

Randy has been involved in the construction industry for more than 25 years, joining the firm in 1994.  Serving as President  & CEO, Randy leads an outstanding group of dedicated and talented construction professionals.  Duties also include developing and maintaining client relationships and overseeing overall corporate risk strategy.

As a member of the Board of Directors, Randy works closely with the board to provide strategic direction and vision for the Company – a roadmap for the future.

Prior to being appointed President and CEO, Randy served as CFO from 1994 – 2010.

Community support includes serving on the boards of Junior Achievement, Northern State University Foundation, Volunteers of America-Dakotas and The First National Bank in Sioux Falls and Eide Bailly Advisory Boards.  Randy also serves on the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Community Appeals and Business Leadership Council committees.

As the Vice President of Operations, Marlyn utilizes his twenty-eight years of experience with the Journey Group to focus on building successful teams. He applies his guidance and leadership skills to support each of the operating units while managing valuable resources and communicating the companies core values. His drive to instill the attitude of "success through performance" in our field leadership is only overshadowed by a commitment to our employees, to send each and every employee home safely at the end of every day

Darin has been with the Journey team for 17 years. Darin's field experience, engineering background, and experience in project management, estimating, and scheduling on several unique and challenging projects has allowed him to bring these skills to his current role as the division manager for Sioux Falls Construction and Journey Construction Professionals. Darin instills a "can-do" attitude and a team-based approach when working with owners, design team members, and Journey's management team to ensure that all project expectations are met or exceeded. His ability to create an atmosphere where all parties feel part of a team with a common goal has led to highly successful projects.

Jared joined the Journey Group team fifteen years ago. Extensive engineering training coupled with hands on construction experience has given Jared the skills to successfully analyze, solve and communicate challenging logistical and constructability issues that arise on projects. Jared has successfully completed an eclectic array of projects but is consistently drawn to the time sensitive, technical and challenging projects that require a detail-oriented Project Manager.

Ryan is the division leader for our Black-Top Paving Division. He has worked in many areas of construction,  making him a versatile member of our team. He applies his extensive construction knowledge and performance-oriented management style to all his projects. Ryan and the asphalt division he leads focus on doing quality work in a timely manner from the bidding process to project completion.

William has a varied background in managing projects from the aerospace industry to underground civil construction.  Through Will’s experiences he has served as both a support contractor and an owner’s representative which gives him a unique perspective on managing projects.  Will is a Project Management Professional (PMP) with nearly 20 years of experience that includes direct project leadership & management experience supporting government funded activities and facility oversight.  He’s a proven manager with construction management, operations, maintenance, and information technology experience.

Leigh has over 32 years of experience as a project manager, estimator and construction professional.  He has developed remarkable leadership skills which are reflected in every project he completes. Leigh is constantly forecasting tasks for his crews to move onto the next, while interpreting and detecting potential delays. Leigh has developed an exceptional reputation by consistently completing projects on-time and under budget. He displays a remarkable ability to function well under pressure, an unwillingness to compromise the integrity of Ainsworth Benning in any way, and an absolute commitment to seeing every project through to the end. At the completion of each project Leigh’s goals are firmly intact and just as strong as when he began. He is known for implementing and maintaining open and honest communication and delivering a high-quality final product in an efficient manner that leaves the client completely satisfied.

Joining Journey Group in September 2015, Arin brings a unique perspective with five years of experience in public accounting specializing primarily with closely-held construction companies. Experience includes providing assurance and consulting services to a wide variety of companies including vertical construction, heavy highway, paving, dirt work, and underground utilities as well as a variety of construction suppliers, aggregate producers, and equipment dealerships. In addition, Arin has considerable experience working with community-based non-profit organizations and foundations.

As a member of Construction Financial Management Association, Arin serves on the Board of Directors, Membership Committee, and Heartland Regional Conference Planning Committee. Arin is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and South Dakota CPA Society.

As Vice President of Finance and Administration, Arin provides leadership and insight related to the Company’s accounting, financial reporting, and administrative functions.

David Haught

David has been in the construction industry since 1975, where he started in design and estimating. Since 1980 David has been involved in all phases of commercial construction including: estimating, conceptual estimating, design-build, value engineering, scheduling, project phasing and project management.  David instills project leadership through collaboration, proficient communication, and proactive management skills.  These skills allow him to build successful long term relationships with clients, co-workers, and other project team members.  David is a decisive team leader with extensive experience in estimating, developing project schedules, project management efficiency, quality control, and acute attention to safety.  Experienced in complex and mission critical projects, he understands the critical nature of scheduling construction activities in and around customer and design partner needs.

Craig Holmen

As a 7-year member of the American Society of Heathcare Engineers, Craig is one of only about 300 nationally Certified Heathcare Constructors (CHC) in the country. To earn this certification by the American Hospital Association, an individual must satisfy eligibility requirements that incorporate a blend of professional experience and education, adhere to the AHA Professional Standards of Conduct, and pass the CHC Certification examination which includes competency in Industry Fundamentals of Planning, Design and Construction processes, Healthcare Safety, and Financial Stewardship. Craig has managed Healthcare projects ranging from small office remodels to an $18 million dollar ground up Critical Access Hospital. Other projects include libraries, office buildings, banks, retail stores, and museums, ranging from very small to over $20 million dollars.

Many of Craig’s projects have been in a Design-Build and Construction Management format.  Having worked directly with several architectural firms has given Craig a unique appreciation for design and the collaborative approach to delivering building projects.

Mark is a dedicated team player that is willing to do what it takes to make projects successful. Mark’s greatest assets are his work ethic and eagerness to learn from every opportunity presented.

Brad has been an asset to Journey Group and the Asphalt Paving Industry for over five years.  He has done it all. From a laberer at the end of a shovel to project management, Brad is SDDOT certified for both asphalt and aggregate testing.  He provides clients with timely and accurate estimates as well as quality projects.  Brad's focus is client satifaction with every project delivered.

With over eleven years of experience using Revit and Building Information Modeling(BIM) software, Jamison provides project teams a unique perspective on the entire construction process while delivering highly successful projects.

Devan has over 20 years of experience as a project manager, estimator and construction professional.  He has completed numerous projects involving cost control, cost estimating and overall construction services.  He has amassed a wealth of knowledge about construction, from materials selection and overall value engineering (cost control), to packaging of bids and related professional construction services.  Devan started as a laborer and has advanced to a project manager and has managed a variety of projects throughout western South Dakota. A passion of the construction industry, a tireless focus on client satisfaction, and Devan’s uncanny ability to understand client needs allows for successful projects and longstanding client relationships.
